Pool to be covered

If enough money can be raised, Raetihi swimming pool is to be covered to permit year round swimming. At the Raetihi Swimming Club's AGM, held last week, a committee was appointed to look into the feasibility of covering the pool. If the committee decides to go ahead, fund-raising will begin straight away, says the club's diving coach, Mrs Cynthia Binzegger. The pool has solar panels, which were used in the past to heat the water, but they are nqt working at present. However, the club decided at its meeting to have the panels repaired as soon as possible. Club members believe that if the solar panels are repaired and the pool is roofed, swimming and diving will become an all year round activity in Raetihi. At present the pool is often iced over in the early mornings during the winter months. If the pool is covered, one end will be built up to accommodate the existing three-metre diving board. Mrs Binzegger says it is important to retain the board "as there are so many keen divers in the club." The committee plans to

investigate how the covering of the National Park pool was organised and funded, before they begin their own fund-raising campaign.
