LETTER TO THE EDITOR
"No Smoking" stand I'm not in a position to apply for your job as my children are well settled in Pukerua Bay and would object to my moving house but I did want to write and congratulate you and your staff on your "no smoking" stand. I read the advertisement for a Waimarino Bulletin editor while on a sub-editing course at the Waikato Times. I enjoyed the course very much but one thing which did mar it for me was the foggy atmosphere caused by so many people who apparently could not get
through the day without lighting up several cigarettes. The atmosphere over the subs'desk was evenworse. Is it perhaps considered essential to the journalists' image to be a heavy smoker? I have never smoked and object to having to inhale other people's smoke. It makes my eyes sting and my throat sore and I'm also painfully aware of the link between cigarette smoke and cancer. Luckily in my own job I sit beside a window. I hope you get the successor you deserve. Very best wishes.
