SQUASH NEWS

Joanne Williams of Taihape scored the best win of her career in the semi-finals of the N.Z. championships in Napier, by beating Robyn Blackwood, number 9 ranked player in the world. Her 4-9 7-9 9-3 9-6 9-4 victory came after a 57 minute struggle and virtually assures Mrs Williams of a place in the New Zealand team to play a test match against Australia this weekend. In the final against world number one, Susan Devoy, Mrs Williams became the first New Zealand woman to take a set off Miss Devoy for a year, showing that her recent trip overseas to improve her squash, was a valuable one.
