EDITOR'S NOTE
The Ohakune Borough Council has no intention of flouridating the town 's water supply according to Mayor Bill Taylor. Both the letter above favouring flouridation and the one we published two weeks ago which opposed flouridation were prompted by an article which appeared in the Waimarino Bulletin on 3 April concerning the high incidence of dental decay in Ohakune. In that article Mr Desmond Smith, principal dental health officer for the Waimarino raised the question of flouride. He said that "because of the expense of introducing
flouride into Ohakune 's water supply for a population of 2,000, a more practical proposition would be flouride tablets which could be purchased directly from the local chemist or prescribed by the local doctor. In addition about 90% of all toothpastes available in New Zealand contain flouride. "
