Ohakune Garden Circle awards life membership
The monthly meeting of the Garden Circle was held on Tuesday 21 May at the home of the Vice President, Mrs B. Barnes, in Rangataua Road Ohakune at 8pm. Despite the very cold and frosty conditions a good number of members attended. Special mention for a noble effort to secretary Mrs Jackie Murray who drove in from Waiouru, and Mrs Anthea Tidswell who drove in from National Park. A letter was received and read to members from Mrs A. Reid, now of Hastings, and former President of the Garden Circle for thirty years. Mrs Reid was made Honorary Life Member of the Garden Circle and wrote to say how pleased she was to receive her certificate. During the evening a distribution of lilium corms purchased from Circle funds was made to members. Two raffles of liliums were held for club funds and the lucky winners were Mrs J. Ram and Mrs J. Forest, Mrs R. Tidswell and Mrs A. Creighton. The monthly competition, an arrangement of flowers on a card, was won by Mrs E. Beavis with Mrs J. Ram -as runner up. The competitions for flower of choice and shrub of choice were won by Mrs E. Beavis, Mrs E. Martin, Mrs E. Samson and Mrs C. Hitchcock. Meetings of the Garden Circle are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the above venue. Anyone interested in gardens and 'Things that grow' are
warmly invited to come along to the meeting. A welcome and an enjoyable evening are assured.
