SOCCER

Waimarino United dominated the youthful Waiouru team, on Sunday 29 April at Ruapehu College, in all facets of play and were deserved winners in appalling conditions 2-0.

Gary McMillan was again the Player of the Day, scoring both goals in the first half. The first goal came from a well judged through ball played by Rod Gill, which McMillan snapped on eagerly to slip it past the goalkeeper. His second one was a more individual effort when he fired a shot in from an acute angle with his left boot, leaving the goalkeeper stranded. The return of Gary McKenzie in goal for Waimarino and the strengthening of the defence made a wealth of difference to the side after their demoralising loss to Taihape two weeks previously.
