Hot pools for Ohakune?...
... well if not exactly 'hot' perhaps at least tepid.
Mr John St Clair Brown, the Auckland businessman whose proposal to develop part of Ohakune's Jubilee Park Reserve as a sport and recreation centre, had his proposal approved in principle by both the Ohakune Borough Council and the Lands and Survey Department. Plans for the development are presently being drawn up and it is expected that they will be ready within the next few days, said local manager for the project, Andreas Hefti. One of the schemes proposed is to turn the
Ohakune Swimming Baths into an all-weather yearround facility. To, achieve the higher water temperatures required for winter comfort, alternative forms of heating to electricity are being investigated. One of these is a wood fired boiler which might also be used for drying wet ski clothes. At least in the Waimarino ample stocks of wood are assured and the facility would no doubt be a very popular attraction for residents and visitors alike.
