TOP SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD TO LOCAL ALL BLACK
Kakatahi farmer and Ohakune half back, Andrew Donald was ehosen as Wanganui Sportsperson of the Year at the annual awards dinner in Palm Lounge, Wanganui on Sunday 15 April. The award, promoted by Moutoa Lions Club and Wanganui Newspapers, is a fitting reward for a player who has 'warmed' the reserve bench at infernational level for three seasons. Donald won his first cap in the test against Scotland
on the ill-fated tour of England and Scotland last year. With Wanganui administrator Paul Mitchell as manager — coincidentally also one of the judges for the award — Donald impressed on the tour with his fine allround game and as a good tourist. Donald became only the third rugby player in the twenty-one year old history of the award, to win. He had made ninety appearances for the Wanganui representative side since 1976.
