Public comments on railway alignment called for

New Zealand Railways is asking for public comment on the proposal to upgrade the alignment of the North Island Main Trunk Line between Ohakune and Horopito. The proposal involves the replacement of existing viaducts as well as easing of the grade and curvature of the track. JB&n several areas the ^PJposed new track will impinge on or pass through land which is at present within the Tongariro National Park. Legislative authority is required to exclude these areas from the Tongariro

National Park prior to the commencement of construction. Before making a decision to seek this authority the Railway's Corporation wishes to receive public comment on the proposal. Copies of the Environmental Impact Report for this project are now available from the Chief Civil Engineer, New Zealand Railways Corporation, Private Bag, Wellington. Written comments should be in the hands of the Commissioner for the Environment or the Chief Civil Engineer NZR by 10 May 1984.
