Waiouru Desert Fair this Saturday
Next Saturday, 10 March, sees the annual Waiouru Desert Fair, one of the major events in the region's summer calendar. First established in the early 70's the Fair has gone from strength to strength and is now seen as the Army's main contribution to help with fund-raising •vities in the Waimarino, roceeds from the fair have been put to many worthwhile community projects. Many sporting and social clubs — of which there are around 200 in the Waimarino — have also benefited from the day's activities. The theme of the Desert Fair is to encourage people from surrounding communities to spend the day in Waiouru at both Paterson Field and the Army Museum in order to share in a day of fun and spectacle. Among the many events in the day's programme are the following attractions: • A military parachute drop • A police dog display • Extensive military displays • Marching girls
• A Desert Queen competition • A Maori Club performance • A military band • Tug-o-Warandgumbootthrowing competitions • Skeet shooting • Clydesdale horse-and-cart rides • Pet dog parades • Pony Club rides • RNZCT Vehicle Roll-past • RNZEME Recovery display • Mini-bike rides • Side ' shows and commercial displays • Monster raffle drawn from lucky numbers on programmes. The Army is looking forward to seeing you there.
