John took up his new appointment at Pipiriki last week when he transferred from the Tongariro National Park staff at Ohakune to fill the vacancy created by John Ombler's transfer to Fiordland National Park. The 15ft (4.67m) steelhulled boat powered by a Falcon Motor driving a Hamilton 773 jet unit is based at Pipiriki for use by river rangers.
