Raetihi Borough News
Councillorsexpressed differing opinions about the future of an empty commercial section opposite the main shops in Seddon Street at last month's council meeting. This section, on the north side of Seddon Street, has recently been beautified and developed as a picnic and play area. When a resolution to request help from local community service clubs to help establish another play , area at "the back of the i Town green" was discussed, I Cr Compton said that the I A»ddon Street section, th'ich is owned by the Raetihi Borough Council, [ was too valuable a commerf cial property not to offer it \ for retail development. However Cr Tapp said that he was totally opposed | to such a development and I felt that to have a | recreational facility and rest j area in the middle of town [ where children could be left in safety while their parents I shopped was a more t important consideration. "It should be retained as a | play area in the centre of J town for the benefit of I children and their parents" • he said.
Council decided to refer the matter back to the works and town planning committees for further consideration. Sign A sign stating: "The Administration Centre — Waimarino County Council and Raetihi Borough Council," is soon to be commissioned and installed in front of the former Raetihi Borough Council Chambers. It will be a free standing sign mounted on posts on the corner of the building and will match a similar sign for the Waimarino Veterinary Clinic on the opposite side of the road. contdp.3
