New development on Turoa

In 1982 through the growth of skiing as a recreational sport, skifields throughout Australasia experienced queuing problems but, for the 1983 season, Turoa has done something about it. In terms of ticket saies, a major improvement was seen in 1982 with the extension of ticket selling counters to provide a faster flow - through of people eager to get their skis on. 1983 will see a similar improvement in speeding up service for skiers, enlarged cafeterias, upgraded ski hire facilities, and most important of all, the long new Jumbo T-bar should dramatically reduce queues on the mountain. The Jumbo T-bar is 997 metres long with a lifting capacity of 1400 people per hour, and is accessib^^om the top of the SP»id chairlift. It is about 197 metres longer than the existing T-bar and is the longest T-bar in New Zealand. In a bid to make eating more comfortable, the Alpine Lodge restaurant at the bottom of the first chairlift has been extended this season, offering more seating both inside and on the extensive deck outside. The expansion will also incorporate more efficient systems of serving food to avoid delays.
