We cannot say that we admire the Kopuru School Committee’s method of advertising or dealing with the local press. Several months ago we received an advertisement, signed by the Secretary of Committee, for insertion in our columns. First of all our application for payment was ignored, but on further demand we are coolly informed that the insertion of the advertisement was ordered at an illegal meeting, only three persons being present, and so we suppose that in future when advertisements are sent us duly signed by the Secretary we must enquire as to whether everything has been legally gone through in connection with it. But we need evidently expect no more advertisements for we find that though the Committee have a valuable sewing machine for sale by tender they have decided to make it known only by written notices posted lieie and there. ny business man will know the loss likely to arise from such a hole and corner way cf advertising, and we are surprised that the Committee should have adopted it In dealing with public property we take it to be the duty of those in charge to make it known through the public press for the greater publicity must tend to increased price We give the Committee this advertisement of the machine on sale without charge We do not, wish to boast, but we can honestly say that we have always dealt most liberally with philanthropic efforts, and only recently we lent* all the aid we could by free advertising etc., to the Talarariki school, under this same Gpmmittee, and we feel it to be rather ungrateful that our assistance was not asked in disposing of this valuable machine.
