In reference to the promise, obtained by Mr Houston from the PostmasterGeneral, of a telephone station at Opanaki it is estimated by Dr, Lemon that t .e in would cost £GOO to complete. The Opanaki settlers would, we believe, be content with a telephone at Maropiu, which we are informed could be done for something like ,£4:00, if the Government will give them a bridge over the Kailiu creek at Opanaki to connect the road with tire railway station there. Sometime siuce the County Chairman with Mr A. Black interviewed the Natives and obtained a right of road to the station but the matter has since hung fire much to the inconvt nience of the settlers. Mr Mueller’s attention was drawn to this matter when he was recent]}’ in the district, and lie promised to advocate this connection, The Kailiu Valley disiriet is becoming very numerously peopled and cannot long be denied telephone communication with the Wairoa and outside world, but settlers would not like to see the telephone to Opanaki stand in the way of a bridge over the Creek,
