LANSDOWNE SCHOOL.
MUSICAL CLUB AND CHOIR. The Lansdowne School Musical and Dramatic Club and School Choir are commencing practice again next week. The primary aim of the club is to further help to raise the standard of singing in the school in addition to the ordinary class singing; to provide a means for healthy recreation for the pupils of a source Of enjoyment for their parents; to give definite instruction in the principles of voice production suitable to the ages of the pupils; to link up such subjects as literature, history of music, musical. composition (melody and harmony), elocution and dramatic art; to broaden the minds of the pupils and to assist practically in giving them a foundation through which they will be able to appreciate good music and to 'guide natural ability and talent along right lines. The school choir numbers 150 mixed voices taken from tho inter-' mediate and senior standards. With the specialised training they receive the children should benefit greatly and it is certain that their tastes in music will rise above the present popular standard which musical people universally agree has little to commend it. Though the club is not formed primarily for the purpose of giving public performances, it is to be hoped that the parents and public generally will be given the opportunity of seeing tho children perform and hearing their fine singing as in past years.
The club is under the capable direction of Miss L. E. Hall, A.T.C.L., a member of the school staff.
