THE ROYAL VISIT.

ADMISSION TO GRANDSTAND. STATEMENT BY MAYOR. In view of some comment locally upon admissions to the grandstand at the reception to the Duke and Duchess .of York at the Masterton Park Oval last Saturday the Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan) yesterday made a brief statement on the subject. At the request of the Department of Internal Affairs, the reception was made a Wairarapa district function. Consequently the Borough invited the councillors of boroughs and counties, and their wives; ex-Mayors and their wives, representatives of religion and the heads of local institutions to occupy the seats in the stand, of which about 250 were available. The invitations and tickets, numbering about 250, were distributed to the above mentioned persons but whether those to whom the tickets wore sent utilised them or r.ot was not known. It was quite likely, suggested Mr. Jordan, that some of the tickets might have been transferred by holders unable to attend. As far as the Borough was concerned, the best was done to ensure adequate representation of those interested in public life, but what happened regarding the actual use of the tickets was beyond the Borough's control. It might be added that all the available seating accommodation wns not taken up, almost a full row at the back of the stand being vacant.
