Mrs. R. E. Jones and Mrs. E. A. Hall and her little son, of Essex Street, who have been spending a month’s holiday at Island Bay, returned to Masterton this week.
At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Automobile Association, Messrs. L. A. Butcher, C. L. Turner, J. B. Lawrence, W. G. Bishop, T. A. Brown, and Mrs. M L. Johnston were elected new members.
Mr. W. Tulley, a member of the Masterton Harrier Club, was last evening farewelled by members of the club prior to his departure to the Norfolk Islands. Ho will be leaving at the end of this month.
A tribute was paid yesterday by the Methodist Conference to the Rev. Samuel Lawry, of Christchurch, Connexions! Secretary to the Methodist Conference, who retired this year after fifty years in the Ministry. The Rev. M. A. R. Pratt succeeds him.—(P.A.) The death occurred on Monday night of Miss Christina Katherine Taylor, a well known resident of Martinborough. The deceased, who was 42 years of age, was the second daughter of the late Mr. James Taylor, and had been an invalid for the past twelve years. Tho Minister of I: efence announces a Wellington Press Association message states, that the chairmanship of the War Pensions Board, 1 rendered vacant by the resignation of Sir Frederick Chapman, will be filled by the appointment of Mr. Justice Stringer, who takes up his duties pn March 28, at Auckland.
At the annual meeting of the Masterton Professional Musicians’ Association last evening, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Dr. Moser; president, Mr. A. B. Wallaee; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Vaughan and J. Rosowarne; secretary, Miss A, Bary; treasurer, Miss V. Hampton; council members, Mesdames J. Black and Fieldhouse and Miss Holmwood,
Mr. Phil Pike, for twenty years one of Eketahuna’s most prominent and progressive citizens, leaves tho district tomorrow. It is Mr. Pike’s intention to spend the winter in Australia with his wife and daughter, and later return to settle, in New Zealand. Mr. Pike have been closely identified with the development of Eketahuna during his long residence there. He was Mayor for a term, and in addition served for many yeafs as a borough councillor. He represented the Eketahnna Borough on the Wairarapa Hospital Board. In addition, Mr. Pike was associated with the administration of several social and sporting institutions, and his departure from tho district will leave a vacancy hard to fill.
