RIFLEMEN AT TRENTHAM.
ARMY MEETING. RESULTS OF TEAMS MATCHES. TRENTHAM, March 10. After heavy rain in the early morn ing, the weather gradually improved till the afternoon, when the sun came out strongly. The teams matches followed in tho day and everything has been cleared up ready for the King’s medal match to-morrow.
The Hotchkiss gun match w-as won by the Sth (Nelson) Mounted Rifles .with a score of 51, taking the challenge trophy and £l2. The Ist (C.Y.C.) Mounted Rifles were runners-up with a score of 24, taking £lO.
The Lewis gun match was won by the North Auckland Regiment (score 123) taking the challenge trophy and £l2. The Hawke’s Bay Regiment were runners-up (score 113) taking £lO. The McKinney Challenge Cup for the Army Service Corps Lewis gun match was won by the Northern Department (score 97).
A battle practice competition for Territorials was won by the Central Command, with a score of 533 and that for Cadets fell to the Northern Command with a score of 604.
The Vickers team, firing a match tonight at targets, the positions of which are indicated and marked out by the team leaders before dark. The only guide to the gun teams after dark are certain set lights to give direction. The results will 'be unknown till the morning.
The Central Command won the Services teams match with a score of 662, H.M.S. Rei/iwn being runners-up with 591.—(P.A.) Competing in the Trentham Match (second stage) Class 11., Sergeant W. R. Press (Carterton) with a score of 22, received a prize of ss. Od.
