POULTRY FARMING

YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED

OVERSEA COMPETITION COUNTERED. NO HOPE OF EXPORT BILL. AUCKLAND, March 2. The Xcw Zealand Poultry Asseciation commenced its seventeenth annual conference to-day. The president (Mr T. Bruce) said ho felt very satisfied with the past year’s achievements. During the year two very determined efforts had been made to import egg pulp into the country, but thanks to the loyal action of the members of affiliated societies, in carrying out the policy of the association in endeavouring to fulfil the bakers’ requirements during the peak season, and later in giving evidence before the Board ef Trade, the association had been able to convince the Board of Trade that the shortage which did exist had been brought about by the attitude of the bakers and pastrycooks. In fact, the effort by the bakers and the pastrycooks had done much to convince the Board, of Trade of the Poultry Association’s sincerity and its ability to supply the requirements of the Dominion. “I regret at present there is little chance of having an export Bill brought before the House owing to the small proportion of our export,’’ declared Mr. Bruce. “I trust, however, that the conference will again urge for the registration of poultry keepers as I feel this is one of the most important measures the industry requires at present.’’ He believed that the prospects of the industry were very bright.—(P.A.).

WITHDRAWAL FROM FARMERS UNION.
