SWIMMING.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS. WON BY CENTRAL. The first annual combined primary schools swimming championship meeting was held at the Dixon Street baths yesterday before a large attendance of school pupils and. adults. The keenest enthusiasm was displayed by the children, both competitors and onlookers, and there is no doubt that future fixtures will be eagerly awaited.

The meeting was excellently controlled by the teachers of the various schools, and proved a revelation in efficient management. The starting was in the capable hands of Mr. W. C. L. Baskiville. The Donald Cup, for the school scoring the highest aggregate points was won by Central School, with 55 points, with West and Lansdowne tie for second place with 34 points and Te Orc Ore fourth with 19 points.

At the conclusion of the gathering the enp was presented to Mr. R. C. Drummond (headmaster of the Central School) by Mr. W. S. L. Dickson (president of the Masterton Swimming Club) who congratulated the teachers on the success of the carnival. Mr. Dickson mentioned especially the performance of such a small school as To Ore Ore, and contended that such a performance spelt nought but good for tho future success of swimming in the district.
