TRAIN WRECKING.
NEW ATTEMPT AT TERRACE END GOODS TRAIN DAMAGED. PALMERSTON N., February 21. After ten months in inactivity the train-wrecking fiend, who made two ottempts to derail expresses last year, has resumed his operations. This time a sleeper placed across the New Plymouth line at the crossing near the Terrace End station nearly wrecked a goods train coming into 'Palmerston Norfh at 11 o’clock on Saturday evening.
The train happened, to be running a little late and. when the driver felt the bump he applied the brakes, but not before the cow-catcher was severely buckled and a portion stove in. After a delay of about half an hour the train proceeded slowly into Palmerston station.
When the- previous attempts were made at derailment the Government offered a reward of £5OO for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator. In view of the nearness of the Royal visit this reappearance of the wrecking fiend is a little disquieting.—(P.A.).
