JAPAN’S REPLY TO AMERICA. DATi UP CONFERENCE. TOKIO, February 20. Japan’s reply, accepting American proposals for a disarmament conference, providing that it does not occur during the League of Nations’ preparatory conference, and consequently suggests holding the conference after June .1, Giving to the importance attached to the. problem she considers it advisable to send a special delegate from Tokio. The reply expresses pleasure at America not intending to insist that the 5-5-3 ratio be applied to auxiliaries.— (A. and N.Z.) NOTE PUBLISHED. BY AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. WASHINGTON, February 20. The State Department on Sunday published the Japanese Note accepting the United States proposal for a supplemental naval disarmament conference at Geneva, stipulating that it be held no earlier than June 1. The Note stated that it was important for the success of the negotiations that all the parties “approach the subject with an open mind,” guided by the defensive requirements of each of the nations. — (A. -and N.Z.)
