The half-holiday question is. to be discussed at a meeting of tho Masterton Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday next.
It is reported that Mr. C. E. Cross, of Alfredton, has disposed of his property at Flat Bush of 2306 acres, to Messrs Neil McKay and Sons, of Masterton.
It is understood that the Masterton A and P. Association is contemplating 'renovations and improvements to the ram fair sale ring and stand at the Solway Showgrounds. Tho Wellington City and Suburban Highways Board yesterday resolved to draft a by-law increasing the speed limit on the Hutt Road from 30 to 35 miles an hour, and the speed limits of 15 miles at Kaiwarra and Ngahauranga to 20 miles per hour.—(P.A.). A motor-cycle skidded on the Manga tainoka-Pahiatua Road yesterday and as a result Richard Grange, a young married man, was thrown heavily and suffered a broken nose and severe abrasions on the face and head. He is also suffering very badly from shock. He was admitted to hospital.—(P.A.).
A London cable states that ‘‘the Empire Market-place” arranged bp the Empire Marketing Board will be one of the brightest features of the Industrial Fair opening on Monday. The products of every Dominion are admirably displayed. The whole exhibit, designed by Professor A. E. Richardson, is contained within Horace Greiffenhagen’s Frieze of the Empire specially brought from the Dunedin Exhibition. This week’s Mercantile Gazette records the registration of the following company: N. R. Cunningham, Ltd. Registered as a private coinpany February 14, 1927. Office: Masterton. The largest sub-division sale in the Ashburton county since the Langmhor Estate was subdivided in 1912, was held yesterday when 2405 acres of the famous Longbeaeh. Estate was offered by auction. The area comprised eight farms, ranging from 220 to 258 acres, one of 69 aerqs, and a river bed section of 41 acres. All the farms were firstclass* cropping lands, originally reclaimed from swamp by tho late Mr. John Grigg, senior. Six of the farms were sold, the prices being £lB, £29 ss, £25 10s, £l5 15s, £l5 15s, and £2B 5s._(P.A.).
The Dpchess of York set the fashion at Homo in real Alaska gold seal furs, and she is reported to be bringing a number of these out to New Zealand with her. M.udnmo Menere has been fortunate enough to sreure a quantity
of real Alaska. gold seal and these she will be displaying on her approaching Dominion tour, commencing at Invercargill next month.*
