AGGRESSIVE CRICKET.
MELBOURNE V. WANGANUI. BERNAU IN GREAT FOBM.. WANGANUI, February 15;. Melbourne and Wanganui cricketers met here to-day in beautiful weather. The wicket was very fast. Wanganui batted first and compiled 271.. Osrr, Holland and Williams were particularly aggressive and found no difficulties in the bowling of Ebling, Ransford, T. Armstrong, Wood and Johnstone. Dernau, the ex-New Zealand express bowler was at the top of his form and proved a destructive agent in the Melbourne innings. At the drawing of stumps, the visitors had lost seven wickets- for 157. Johnstone. OnyoAs and Rodgerson were the only batsmen able to cope with the deliveries. Ransford was beautifully bowled with Bernau’s fourth delivery. The game will be continued to-morrow. The highest scorers were:— Wanganui, 271 (Orr 57, Bernau 26, Treadwell 28, Holland 70, H. Williams 69). Bowling. Ebeling 3/48, Arm- ' strong 2/93, Wood 2/43, Johnstone ;2/37. Melbourne, 157 for seven wickets (Qnyons 37, Johnstone 54, Rodgerson 30, Dakin not out 11). Bowling: Bernau 4/55, Treadwell 2/27. —(P.A.)
