COMMUTEE MEETS. ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF GIFTS. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Methodist Children’s Home, there were present, the Rev. W. Beckett, Messrs C. E. Daniell, J. H. Handyside, F. E. Wells, S. J. Smith, W. S. Jones, W. Judd; Mesdames J. Cocker, W. Beckett, J. Elliott, Misses Burton and the Rev. J. Cocker (secretary). Th© chairman extended a welcome to the new members, Mr. W. H. Judd and Mr. W. S. Jones.

The secretary reported that D. Stevenson had gone to work on a farm, Raymond Churchill and R. Thompson had become pupils at the Wairarapa High School, G, T>ot\gb.i had commenced dpmestic work at the residence of the Bev. W. Beckett and. one child had been admitted during the month. During the holidays all the children except six had spent some time as guests of friends. The Children had also been entertained at Christmas trees by members of the Druids’ Lodge and also at the home through the efforts of Mrs. Robert Mclvor. The net proceeds of the concert given by the children in the Parish Hall amounted to £l9 18s 6d. A system of gas heating has been installed in the home and is giving satisfaction. It was decided that another heater be added. Mr. F. E. Wills was thanked for his work as honorary auditor and the preparation of the annual balance-sheet. The result of the Christmas collections in the churches within the area served by the home and special donations and contributions had amounted during the two months to £643. The expenditure for the same period was £316 3s 3d. Accounts amounting to £37 were passed for payment. Gifts are acknowledged as follows: Food, proprietors of Wenvoe Tea Rooms, Mesdames Carter, Wardell, Cocker, George (Pahiatua), D. Donald, C. J. Bennett, C. F. Vallance, Wilson, Coradine, Felingham, Beckett, Lahore, Brasell, Hugh Williams, Mrs. and Miss Gray (Greytown); Miss Bee; Messrs D. Smith, Timson, Hilton, King, Heyhoe, McCormack, Gibbs, H. Jones, Physic, Hugh McLaren, Barber Bros., Brooklyn Junior Men’s Bible Class. Clothing: Mesdames Rishworth, Denton (Raetihi), C. F. Vallance, Guy Williams, Kummer; Johnsonville Young Men’s Bible Class, Carterton D.H.S. C.U., anonymous, a friend (2). Books and magazines: Mesdames Davis, Felingham; gramophone records, Mrs. W. Jenkins; toys, anonymous, St. Christopher’s Club (Hastings), Mrs. Green (Parkvale), Well wisher (Hastings), McLeod and Young, Mr. H. Jones. Gifts of fruit for preserving will be thankfully received.
