THE SHOW.
EVENTS FOR PEOPLE’S DAY. AMPLE ENTERTAINMENT. No one needs to be told that today is People’s Day at the Masterton Show—the day on which the public is wont to assemble in its thousands and on pleasure bent Although yesterday was a day of bustling activity at Solway, a large proportion of the ling events and competitions are reserved for today. The annual tug-o’-vvar contest between the committee members of the Masterton and Carterton A. and P. Societies will take place at Solway this afternoon. The Masterton team will be as follows:—Messrs. W. 11. Bird, J. W. Colquhoun, P. M. Compton, W. H. Harcombe, W. G. Laing, D. McKenzie, H. J. Rayner and L. R. ‘0 Eton. Keen interest was taken yesterday by the public in the weight*judging competitions for the bullock and sheep. The first prize for the bullock is £lO, second prize £3 and to th? lady who guesses the nearest correct weight a gold wristlet watch. The prizes for the sheep amount to £3. Farmers and others will have an opportunity to-day of testing their skill in this interesting competition. Ono token of the popularity of the Show was the keen demand yesterday for the well-produced and conveniently arranged catalogue brought out for the A. and P. Association by Mr. W. E. Knott, and printed by the Master*, -i Printing Company. Salos of the catalogue already run into large figures, and no doubt yesterday’s figures will be exceeded to-day.
