The Greytown School opened with a ■.roll number of 259 in the primary deand 22 in. the secondary department. Tennis. A tennis match will be played at Martinborough to-day between the A teams of the Carterton and Martinborough clubs. The visiting team will be: F. C. Bunny, D. L. Taverner, R. AV. Roydhousc, T. George, S. Dickens, and B Booth. Mesdaines B. Booth, M. P. M. Tweed, J. Steely Misses N. Feast, G. Read and L. Fisher. In tho ladder matches played on the Greytown courts, Miss 1. Collier beat Mrs. Balfour, Miss Vile beat Miss Diddams, and Miss M. Collier and Miss D. Stringfellow beat Miss Diddams. Cricket. Carter ton seniors to play Martinborough at Carterton to-day: Smart, Phelps Suckling, Denby, McKenzie, Fairbrother, Hart, Booth. Newbold, Riggs, Gallon and Whitburn.
Juniors to play Greytown, at Carterton: Phillpotts, Matson, Burgess, Ticehurst, Ellis, Bannin, Welch, Grigg, Williams, Trapp, Milner and Tunnicliffe. Thirds to play High School at High School: Wadham, Barlow, Steffert, Butler, Corlett, Denbee, Aplin, Feast, Wright, Wiseley.
Rimutaka Hill. It is understood that a number of motor lorry owners will appear before the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington shortly, for exceeding the weight limit over the Rimutaka Hill.
FEATHERSTON. (“The Age” Special.) Mr. Geo. Vincent has returned from a tour of the North Island. The main roads in the Featherston borough are at present being tar-sealed and should bo in good condition before the winter. . Croquet. Mrs. Vincent, of the Featherston ■Croquet Club, and several members of the Haunui Club, represented the local clubs at a tournament held at Eketahuna on. Wednesday. The weather was all that could be desired, and although the greens were very dry, several good half-hour matches were played, Mrs. Barry, of the Haunui Club, winning a first and Mrs. Simpson a fourth. The visitors were hospitably entertained luncheom by the Eketahuna Club, and a most enjoyable day was spent. In the weekly match for the McKenzie Brooches, played on the Featherston Club’s green, Mrs. McKenzie and Mr. Saunders lost to the holders, Mesdames Fairbrother and Williams. Bowling.. The following teams will represent the Featherston Bowling Club against Masterton on Saturday:—At Featherston: Hazelman, Benton, Grams, Smith (s); Simpson, „Bladen, McKenzie, Rao (s); Nelson, Morlet, Ball. J. Higgison (s). At Masterton: W. Higgison, Crawford, Burke, Rolls (s); 'Deas, Candy, Fuge, Adamson (s); Clarke, Yule, Turnbull, Sinclair (s). Tennis. In a tennis match played last week for Miss R. Card’s trophy, Rowles (5) lost to Sutherland (13) 60/56. The following are the teams to' plvy against Masterton Memorial Club today:—A team (at. South Featherston School held its annual picnic at the Tauherenikau racecourse cn Friday. The weather and surroundings wore ideal, and luncheon was provided by the ladies of South Featherston. Prizes for competition among the children were presented by the. school committee and generous donors. Tn tho evening a dance v.as held in the South Featherston Hall.
