SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

LANSDOWNE. MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee was attended by Messrs D. A. Pickering (chairman), Jas. Allan, A. H. Clarke, H. V. Haise, H. E. Pith er, A. AL Sanson, E. Weteh, P. A. Macomish (secretary) and J. Noble (headmaster). The headmaster reported that the school reopened with a roll number of 353, being 15 in excess of the number of pupils attending prior to the holidays. The position was considered to be very satisfactory. The secretary was instructed to ask the board to expedite action to increase the pressure of water at the school and to arrange the internal renovation already submitted for consideration. Messrs H. E. Pither and A. M. Sanson were appointed visitors for FcbAccounts totalling £4 15s 4d were passed. It was decided to hold the school picnic at Solway Showgrounds on Friday, February 25.

MASTERTON CENTRAL. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held last evening, Mr. J. E. MeV. Calwell presiding, there being also present: Messrs W. R. Nichol, G. L. Scrivener. C. Braggins and A. E. Freeman, and the headmaster, Mr Drummond. Routine business was transacted and the financial position was considered satisfactory. The Education Board advised that a grant would be made towards repairs to the museum ground dividing fence. The matter of removing a tree on the school grounds on account of adjfltent telegraph wires was left in the hands of Mr. Freeman. Mr. Russell was authorised to procure 12 loads of manure for the school garden. The headmaster reported that the 4 •iffeool opened with a roll number* of 548. Miss R. McFadden joined the staff as probationery assistant and Miss K. Dickson as probationer.
