ALL MINES IDLE.
IN NORTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES. LOCAL BOARDS ADVOCATED. (Received Wednesdav, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 9. All the mines on the northern coalfield are idle to-day in accordance with last night’s decision. There is only sufficient coal at Newcastle to supply ships loading to-day. Thereafter the position will become serious. The Leader of the Federal Opposition (Mr. Charlton) and Mr. Watkins, a member of the House of • Representatives, telegraphed to Mr. Bruce asking him to appoint local boards immediately means of obviating the threatened hold-up of the mines.—(P.A.) MASS MEETINGS CALLED. BY MINERS’ FEDERATION COUNCIL. (Received This Day, 1.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 9. The Central Council of the Miners’ Federation decided that aggregate meetings should be held on Monday in all States except Queensland and Tasmania, where it is impracticable to got the miners together at such short notice.—(P.A.)
