CRICKET MANAGEMENT.

COMMITTEE MEET REPORT ON TARANAKI MATCH. The management committee of the Wairarapa Cricket Association met last evening, Dr. G. H. Uttley presiding. A letter was received from the Hutt Cricket Club, expressing regret that it could not send a team to play Waira'rapa, but hoping to be able to do so later in th© season ■ The request of the Featherston Club for an off Saturday on February 19 on the occasion, of their annual sports meeting, was granted. Mr. D. K. Logan, manager of the Wairarapa team that played Taranaki, forwarded a report of the tour, which was of a very satisfactory nature. The association regretted, however, that a visiting team should be asked to play on such a frightful wicket as that at Hawera. Mr. Logan was thanked fi&r his report, and it was decided fro draw the attention of the New Zealand Cricket Council to' the report concerning the wickets. It was decided to thank all those who kindly made donations to the funds of the association to allow this match to be played. Appreciative remarks were passed concerning the donors’ action. The New Zealand Cricket Council notified that the Wairarapa Association would be allotted a match with the Afelbourne Cricket Club, providing a sum of £l2O was paid. It was decided to refuse the match, and point out to the council <that the charge was excessive, especially in consideration of the fact that only £3OO was asked from the main centres for a three-day match at the week-ends. It was decided to leave the matter of arranging a match with Alfredton in the hands of Mr. E. M. Bundle. A letter was received from the Martinborough Club, notifying that they wished to withdraw from the junior competition grade. 1 A protest was entered by the W.F.C. A. and United clubs against the Hibernians for playing men belonging to other clubs as substitutes. The protests were upheld and matches awarded to W.F.C.A and United.

It was decided to allow High School players on leaving school to join up with any club, provided they notified the association.

Mr. J. Burt (Featherston) and Dr. G. H Uttley (Masterton) were appejnted as sole selectors to pick the South v North Wairarapa teams respectively. The fixtures in the second round of the Wairarapa competition will be found on page 7. INTER-PROVINCIAL MATCH. WON BY CANTERBURY. TIMARU, February 3. Canterbury, 148 and 48 defeated South Canterbury, 106 and 71, by 20 runs. —(P.A.).
