ALLOCATION OF WOOL.
COMMITTEE EXPLAINS. POSITION FULLY REVIEWED. WELLINGTON, February 3. The wool committee explains that in making allocations heed is given to the fact that shearing is earlier in certain parts of the Dominion than others, also that comparative quantities are on offer throughout tho season in different districts. While the committee must deal with each on its merits, it can only consider the claims of each distric in relation to the paramount importance of the whole Dominion. The allocations made early in the season provided an estimated offering in January and February of 142,171 and 144,766 bales respectively, out-of an estimated total offering in all sales of the November-March roster, of approximately 500,000 bales. The committee fully reviewed the position from the viewpoint of the Dominion as a whole at a. special meeting, and was forced to conclude that there would be very grave risk of disturbing the present healthy tone of the market if the aggregate quantities already allotted for the February offering at the various centres were increased in nny instance. Further, it would reduce the quantities available for the March sales, at present estimated at 103,500 bales for the seven sales to be held in Afarch. The committee .feel strongly that the aggregate offerings in March must *e conserved in adequate quantities in order to ensure a continuance of competition from a full bench of buyers.—(P.A.)
