MOTOR REGISTRATION PLATES
NOW AVAILABLE. EARLY APPLICATION REQUESTED The motor registration plates for tho forthcoming year, commencing on April 1, are now on hand at the Masterton Post Office, 2500 having been received for distribution. Motorists are especially requested to obtain the plates as soon as possible, as by so doing they will obviate much personal delay and greatly help the department by saving an eleventh-hour rush, the end of if arch being a particularly busy period. The plates this year are black with, orange figures, and a star replaces the dash. Letters have ben introduced to distinguish the different classes of motors for which the plates are issued. The plates for cars and one-ton trucks will bear no letter, but those for fourwheel trailers, or motor lorries with pneumatic tyres will be designated by the letter A, those for buses or lorries with solid tyres by B, those for twowheel trailers by C, and those for dealers’ cars by D. The plates for Government and local body cars will bear the letter E. This lettering should be of considerable assistance to the police and will also prevent the transference of a number-plate from a car—for which a fee of £2 is charged—to a solid-tyred lorry, for which a fee of £5 is payable. A circular is being issued with every plate pointing out tho obligations of motorists regarding the use of the plates and the procedure to be adopted in the event of the sale or destruction of the car.
It should be noted that any plates procured pj present are not available for affixing before April 1.
