PLUMBERS AND GASFITTERS
BRANCHES OF UNION, THE NEW AWARD. - ( , Mr H. Thompson, general secretary .of the Plumbers' and Gasfitters' : Union, of Wellington, held a meeting of plumbers and gasfitters in Masterton on Thursday even'ng, when steps were taken towards the formation of a branch of the Union in this town. Mr Thompson has recently formed branches at Wanganui, Napier, Hastings, and Dannevirke. In conversation with'an "Age" representative, Mr Thompson stated that sittings of the Conciliation Council hafl recently been held in various township in the industrial d ; strict, and a complete agreement had been reached. Under this agreement plumbers and gasfitters are henceforth to receive 2s 3d per hour, with time and a-half for the first three hours' overtime, and double pay thereafter. A forty-four hours' week has been decided upon. The wages of apprentices have been increased, and provision mods for their technical instruction.
