BRITISH POLITICS.
The Bight Hon. D. Lloyd George is being challenged by Mr. Asquith, but the position ho has taken up is. one that is practically unassailable. He is democratic from the top of his head to the soles of his feetj yet he is not prepared to create a division between the Liberals and Unionists would enable the Socialists to secure the reins of office. He is doing precisely what Sir .Joseph Ward refused to do in New Zealand. *His general politics are not identical with those of the Unionists, but he would rather surrender his own views on minor questions than permit ' the destinies of the United Kingdom to fall into the hands of extremists. If Mr. Asquith forces the position, ho may do immense injury to the Empire. But the great oulk of the Liberals seem to be standing firm to Mr. Lloyd George.
