N.S.W. ELECTIONS.

The result of the New South Wales elections is still uncertain. Prom present indications it'would seem that the Holman Party will depend for its existence, upon a small body described as ''Progressives." These are not associated with Mr. Holman, and have nothing in common with the Labour party. They probably belong to the farming community. The preferential voting system is causing some confusion. It enables the electors to more nearly express their opinion than is possible under the obsolete "first past the post' 4 ' system, but it also provides the contingency of a small minority holding the balance of po^'Cr.
