PASSPORTS.

The war has been ende\l for fifteen months, and people are anxious to get about the world and see things. They cannot do so without securing permission from the Government. They have to produce their photograph, a state ment of their mission abroad, information regarding their finances, and all sorts of other details before they are permitted to travel. Why is this passport system still in existence? Some tell us that it is in' order to capture those who failed to register 'for military service at the time of the wa*r. There are probably a couple of thousand of these, and they are being raked in at the rate of about half-a-dozen a year.' It follows, then, that if the whole of them are to be accounted for, the passport system will bo in operation for nearly half a century. Is it right that the' community should be penalised for the sake of bringing a few defaulters to Account?
