ion ■ MONTHLY MEETING. . The usual monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East Goast P. and A. Society was held at the- secretary's office, Carterton, on Saturday afternoon last. Mr James Hodder was in the chair, and there were also present Messrs K. Eagle, A. Tocker, W. Saywell, F. M. Reynolds, A. Anderson, G. E. Allen, W. Howard Booth, R. G. K Kemble, W. A. Pykc, T, Reid, G. Yule, W. H. Booth and F. Playle. G. Yule, W. H. Booth, F. Playle, J. G. Hart and W. C. Dellar. Apologies were received from Messrs H. R. Bunny, G. Harp, C. Reed, J. G. McDonald, A. Clarke, Roache, and J. Fisher. The treasurer imported a debit balance of £1843 7s lid, and the usual monthly financial statement was adopted. The New Zealand Council of Agriculture wrote drawing the attention of the Society to the fact that the annual subscription to the Council was now due. The secretary of the Wairarapa Rugby Union wrote requesting the use of the Society's showgrounds during the coming football season. The Society decided to grant the request under the usual conditions. Mr L.'Cowan, of Dannevirke, wrote thanking the Society of the courtesy extended him during his visit to the last show. Mir W. McFarlane, of Hastings, who was also a judge at. the last show, wrote to the same, effect. It was decided to write thanking those gentlemen for their services as judges. \ Miss Ida Feist, of Wellington, wrote forwarding her resignation as a steward of the Society.—The resignation was accepted with regret. The New Zealand Farmers' Wanganui Sub-Provincial District, wrote forwarding resolutions passed at a recent meeting in connection with the meat glut, and requesting the Society to endorse the resolutions. The called upon the New Zealand Government to urge upon the Imperial Government, the serious position that would ensue should the meat commander be lifted, and asking what steps are being taken to meet the position that would arise in June next. The matter was left in the hands of the Society's delegates to the Wellington Conference. The Director-General of the Department of Agriculture wrote stating that the resolutions passed at the annual conference of delegates held at Palmerston North recently, would receive the careful consideration of the Government.—The letter was received.
The secretary of the, New Zealand Kennel Club wrote forwarding the number of classes allotted to the Society in connection 'with its next show.
On the motion of Mr E. Eagle, it) was decided to accept the allocation. The Town Clerk, Carterton Borough Council, wrote drawing the attention of the Society, to the fact that overcrowding was taking place nightly at the picture show, and asking that the proprietors should comply strictly with the requirements of the license. —Mr W. Howard. Booth stated that Mr J. Fisher and himself had gone into the matter, and he asked that their action be endorsed. He stated that in the case of a fire or accident the Borough would be liable. The Chairman stated that the present position was most unsatisfactory, and the responsibility should be placed upon someone. In his opinion the conditions of the license should be adhered to. Who was to see that 'the conditions were carried out?
; On the motion of Mr Dellar, it was decided to write and draw the attention of the lessees of the hall to the complaints, snd request that the conditions of the license be strictly' adhered to. .
Mr E. Eagle moved that the Borough Council be also written to, repuesting that the conditions of the license be enforced. This was carried unanimously. It was also agreed to endorse the action of Messrs Booth and Fisher. .
. The resignation of. Mr R. of Masterton, as a member of the Society, was received. . Resignations were also received from Messrs Kendall, Featherston, and A. G. Todd, Levin, and accepted..
