THE ALPASS ESTATE.

A SUCCESSFUL SALE. The Alpass estate, containing approximately 2724 acres, and subdivided into four farms, was - ofifcred •at auction by Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd;, ; in the Foresters' • Hall, Masterton, yesterday afternoon, under instructions frbm the Public Trustee. There was a large '% of settlers, most of whom were from the Forty-Mile Bush, and ~ keen interest was manifested 'm the sale. • Bidding was. spirited thrbitghout, and the sale was considered a great success. The aggregate amount received from the four sections was •over £25,000. The auctioneers, intimated that purchasers would he afforded an opportunity of acquiring the stock on the land in the course of a month or two. The details of the purchases" were as follows:—Section 1, 576 acres.—Messrs Barman and Smith (Alfredton), £8 17s (>d per acre. The purchasers also (secured a Church reserve of 50 acres . at £2O per year. Section 2 (homestead), 826 acres.— Mr C. Dickens (Rakaunui), £lO per acre. The purchaser also secured an * education reserve of 50 acres at 2s ■ 6d tsr acre for sixteen years. Section 3, 595 acres.—Mr T, Dunn (Rakaunui), £9 10s per acre. -\ Section 4, 787J acres.—Mr John Boustead (Alfredton), £7 15s per acre. • '. At the conclusion of the land sale, a number,of town properties were offered. An eight-rooaied , house in " Jrlall street, Masterton, sold to Mr R. K. Jackson for £650. Two . ■ sections in Villa street were sold to Mr J. Russell dt £45 each. Sections in Bentley street were sold at prices ranging from £32 10s to £39 10s. / Two sections at ParkviUe (Eketahuna) - with cottages uoon them, were sold . to Mr J. Hooper for £lO7. Two Alfredton sections, 'with cottages, were purchased by Mr J. Boustead for £2lO. One or two • Masterton properties, including a business site in Queen street, weno withdrawn from public sale, and will be offered privately.
