LYTTELTON SEAT.
BY-ELECTION PROSPECTS. The Christchnrch correspondent of the Evening Post says:—-The prosJpects of tho Lyttelton by-election are discussed keenly in circles connected with the strike. It is evident the ./.contest will be fought hard, and probably bitterly. Labour will nominate ft candidate, who is bound to get a big vote, Lyttelton and Woolston beirtg workers' districts. Tho Government will he represented by a strong man. Several names are mentioned. There will also bo an Independent Liberal candidate and possibly another Independent. If a second ballot operates there may be a Labour-Gov-ernment duel at the second poll. The names mentioned include Mr D. G. Sullivan (Labour), G. Scott (Government), Dr Thacker (Liberal or Independent Liberal). There is a feeling in Liberal circles against opposing & moderate Labour candidate.
