STRIKERS ON THEIR HONOUR. SPECIALS NOT TO BE CALLED UNLESS REQUIRED. DUNEDIN, Last Night. At a meeting of shipwright!? on baturday night, a. ballot wa-s token on
the question of striking. The proposal to strike was rejected by 39 votes to 10. It is reported that" the metal workers also rejected a motion to strike by an overwhelming majority. About 200 men were enrolled asr special constables nvMlay, bringing the total up to 470 men. These were paraded in the gaol yard this afternoon, and were subjected to some more or less good-natured boohccing. It has been freely stated by the strikers that they have no objection to regular policemen doing 'duty at the wharves during loading . operations by the arbitration ists, and it has also been asserted that whether the regular police or specials aro in attendance the strikers do not intend to offer any active obstruction, but that nevertheless they view with great disfavour the bringing in of special police. The watersicicrs are to be put on their honour when work is started on the Moeraki, and only regular police will be on duty on the wharves. If there is no active demonstration against the arbitrationist ■workers, it j$ understood" the specials will not be called on. If the strikers, however, attempt to cross the barriers and the regular police cannot hold them in* check, the mounted men will be at once sent For.
