A. stuong committee lias been formod and advertisemen-t-s have been inserted, calling for applications fro-fi able-bodied men »iio are willing te proceed to Lyttelfcon to assist in tlse work of keeping the port open. Applications have been invited -for special constables, ox-volunteers, and those able to provide horses preferred, but the selection will not by any means be confined to such. At a largely attended meeting of Sarnrers of Ashburton county, convened by the farmers' Union giegter<day to 'discuss 'the position brought about by the waterside workers' .•strike,the ;T»llowing resolution was unanimously tearriod: "That itfias representative:naceting of the Ashburton Farmers' Union, Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and Ashburton buanch of tlio North Canterbury Seed and Grain Association, expresses its deepest regret ;that the Dominion is -bo bo so recklessly precipitated into ano/ther strike; that it is imperative in tlio interests of all that business communications between all 'parts of the Dominion should l>o kept open; and -thai with this end in view a committee 3jo appointed to receive applications from aible-bcfdiedt men who are willing, on 'receiving reasonable notice, to assist jn work at our port, or ports.""'
