LANSDOWNE AND FIRES.
If further evidence were needed of the absolute necessity for the people of Lansdowne taking action to co-ne into the borough, or constitute a separate town district, it is afforded by the present developments over the question of fire prevention. Lansdowne is becoming a very important suburb. It has, probably, two or three ■ hundred residences. And yet, it is dependent entirely upon the Masterton fire service for the protection of life and property. The County Council has been appealed to for assistance, but, in view of the fact that the outlying districts would be taxed for any expense incurred, it has declined to come to the rescue. /Hence, the Fire Board, in its own interests, may be compelled to refuse the services of the Brigade to the Lansdowne people in the case of fire. This will be a very serious matter for the residents of the suburb. The question of securing protection against the ravages of fire is of pressing importance, and the residents of Lansdowne will be failing in their duty if they N do not 'take immediate steps to make (their position secure.
