MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
GENERAL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held in the A. and P. rooms on * Saturday last, there being present—Messrs O. : C. Cooper (president), A. D. McMaster, J. H. Jamesi J. C. McKillop, H. Evans, J. E. Perry, C. F.Vallance; J. Strang, W. Cooper, D.; McGregor, D. Foreman, R. Gray, G. C. Williams, E. Haper, and W. H. Buick.
A letter was read from Mr B. Westmoreland, expressing appreciation of the work done by the subcommittee which had dealt with the matter of an alleged mistake in the jumping event at the last show.—Received.
The Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, wrote stating that he was desirous of having the necessary legislation "placed: on the Statute Book to fatcilitate the setting up of a Board of Agriculture. "You will, understand," he said, ."that in introducing a change of this description there are many matters to be of, and consequently some little time must elapse in getting the scheme in order."
The report of the meeting of Agricultural Committee, at which it had been decided to conduct certain experiments, was read.—Mr R. Gray pointed out €hat there were three or four acres of the Solway estate that were unsold, and He understood that the Solway syndicate were quite will-, ing that this land should be used for experimental purposes.—The president stated that when the land was sold, the proceeds were to be handed over to the association. It was a question whether the utilising of the land for experiments wpuld spoil a sale.—Mr A. J. Percy pointed, out that it was desirable to conduct the experiments over a period of years.— Mr D. McGregor thought the land rather too valuable for experimental purposes.—After further discussion, the matter was referred to the Agricultural Committee, to negotiate as it thought fit with the Solway (syndicate. " .
The New Members' Committee reported that a circular had been sent out to each' member of \ihe association, asking him to procure one or more, new members.—The name of'Mr T. Murray, of Eketahuna, was added to the Members' Committee.
■ The report of the special meeting, at which the schedule had been revised, was adopted. x , The report of the meeting of the Ground Committee, at which Mr E. Harper presided, was read. The caretaker reported having made a number of improvements during the month. Messrs Strang and Gray were appointed to arrange for the erection of wire-netted f««d racks in cattle-pens. It was deoided that a torn of pressed straw be provided for bedding in cattle pens and horse boxes. The charges for the admission of horses of non-members to the paddocks was fixed at one shilling.
The report of the Finance Committee meeting was read. The treasurer reported as follows: Dr. balance September 13th, £247 8s 3d; expenditure for month, £64 12s 3d; receipts for month, £127 10s; dr. balance, £lB4 10s 6d.
Marshal stewards were appointed for the next show, and the meeting adjourned.
