BETWEEN BRITAIN AND AUSTRALASIA.
'Times' —'Sydney Sun' Special Cables, (Received Oct. 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 7.
It is reported that substantial progress Jiasi been made with a scheme for establishing an express mail service between Britain and Australasia, via Canada. The several British shipowning firm® interested are, treating with a Canadian syndicate for -he purchase of four hundred thousand acres at Cape St. Charles, Labrador, to establish an ice-free port. It is proposed to construct a trans-Conti-nental railway to the Pacific. It is claimed that the journey from London to Winnipeg will be performed in five days, with an additional sixteen days to Sydney. Blacksod Bay, on the West Coast of Mayo, Ireland, wilhbe the headquarters of the services on this side, connecting by a special railway with the main service at Sligo. The promoters have arrived at Ottawa to enlist the support of the Canadian Government.
