MEETINO OF COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Com cil of the Masterton Chamber of Cow meree was herd in the A. and I rooms yesterday afternoon, there Ik ing present Messrs C. E. Daniel (President), A. Henderson, E. I Motiintfort, D. M. Graham, G. B Perry, H. Donald, G. W. Sellar, J B. Keith, R. Brown, J. Oaselberg Apologies for absence were receive! from Messrs Chennells, Cooper, ~La gang, Spain, Summerell and Wadding ton. Tlie Treasurer's statement showed i oredit balance at date of £ls 7s 3d. A letter was read from the Eketa hunia Chamber, inviting delegates t< a conference to discuss the question of establishing a motor service be tweenr* Eketahuna and Pongaroa.— The chairman stated that ! he had at tended the conference, which was at tended by a number of representative of the farming interests. A state ment had been drawn up, which wa* viewed with enthusiasm by the Eke tahuna delegates. x When the ques •tion of capital to be considered it was suggested, that Mastertoi shoiild assist the project. Mr P Wise had been, appointed, at a f« of £lO, v Jb make further investigations. Mr Daniell expressed th< hope that any .representations m&it by Mr Wise would be met kindly. _ Ht believed that the "whole of the ?district would benefit by the project.--In answer to Mr Hendorson, the President stated that it was propossid .to avoid the. big hill and bring the Pongaroa traffic to Eketahuna, via Alf redton. A communication was received from the Napier .Chamber, covering a resolution to the Minister of Native Affairs, suggesting that tlie renvoi Natives should be, attachable for derots in the" same way as the rents of Europeansj and asking for the support orf this' chamber.—The President stated that they were killing the Natives with kindness.—On the motion "of Mi Sellar, it was decided that this chamber support the action of .the Napier Chamber in the matter. • T!he .Dannevirke Chamber wrote, suggesting certain amendments to the Bankruptcy Act.—The mattei I was; . referred, to Messrs « Keith and SeHar, to report to the next meeting.. Mr Fraser was a keen business man, and had shown a great interest in the affairs of the district. In conclusion, Mr Daniel! mentioned the death of the late Mr James Brown, who had been a valued member of the Council, and whose sudden death had come as a shook to the community. The motion for the adoption of the report was seconded ; , by Mr Keith and carried. PRESIDENT. j Mr J. B. Keith moved that Mr C. E. Daniell be re-elected to the positiota of President. Mr Keith stated thaii Mr Daniell was in touch with railway matters, and with the commercial' men of Wellington. He had proved himself a hustler,, and it was desirable that he should fill the office of President for another year. Mr R. Brown seconded tlie motion, and 1, endorsed the remarks of Mr .Keith. Messrs A. Henderson and J. Caselberg also expressed the hope that Mr Daniell would see his way clear to again accept office. Mr Daniell stated that if it was the wish of members he would again ac> cept office. He was quite conscious: of the honour that members were paying him, and he promised to do -his best for the district. The motion was put and carried by acclamation. •
