THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The Masterton Chamber of Commerce is not a very impressiyo affair. It is all head and tail, and there is practically no body to it. The head is, of course, the President. And it is fortunate, in this connection, that Mr C. E. Daniell is filling that responsible post, for he is a worker as well as a talker. The tail is the secretary, and he wags the body most vigorously at times. We confess- that we should like to see a little more animation in the body of the institution. Instead of there being; forty membors, half of whwni never attend a meeting, there should %e at least orae hundred. W® might then e-xp«di that the work of the Chamber would be effective. We do not wish to discount the efforts of the President,, secretary, .land half-dozen; genilemen who raeewmoo a month: to deal with correspondence. They hsuve done their best. What we contend'is that the Chamber of Commerce should be representative of the whole of the business interests in the community, and that it should be in a position to--Bpea.k for the town, and to speak wit£ emphasis.
