WELLINGTON PROVINCE.
The deputation of members of the House that waited upon the Prime .Minister on Thursday, and urged the claims of the Wellington Province to a fair share of the public works expenditure, had no difficulty in making out a case. They showed clearly, that there are undertakings of immense importance to this district that have been neglected in the past, and -Uhey insisted that Wellington province should not be overlooked when the loaves and fishes are being distributed. The moral.to be drawn from the clamouring of members of Parliament for Government grants is the obsolete and degrading system under which iihese grants" are made. If there is one thing more than another that is required in this country, it is the setting up of a Public Works Board, which shall expend the moneys voted by Parliament according to- the requirements of the Dominion. The
system of "grab" is most hufKJliatingy not to say extravagant. Until) such a Board as Ave have indicated fo set lip, we can only urge our representatives to on the Ministerial .doo*' mat and push our demands until they are conceded.
