SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
There is ono important provision in the Education Act Amendment Bill that affects the election of School Committees. Under the present -Act, nominations for School Committees are received in writing seven days before an election. This does not, however, preclude an xmlimited number &f new candidates being nominated at the annual meeting of householders. The Sill just introduced provide* that nosainatioms will lw ieoeived at the householders' meeting dnly when a sufficient number have not previously been received i» writing. The amendment is one which will cemraead itself to the general puMic. It will mean that, in fh'e majority of eases, householders wiM knojv who are the candidates several days before the. flay ©f the ©lection, a*d there -v/iAi be no possibility of springing "surprises," such as -bhat which vva« sprung in Masterton a.year or *wo hack.
