THE FISH HATCHERIES.
The Wellington Acclimatisation Society, is to be commended for haying arranged a publio function in connection with the 'establishment of the new fish hatcheries in Masterton. At this function we may expect to hear something of the work that has been performed >by the society since it came into existence, and learn something of the proposals fer the So far : as Masterton and the Wairarapa is: concerned, it is a matter for sincere satisfaction that the movement to remove the fish hatcheries to another part was unsuccessful. In this connection, the district owes a debt of gratitude to the late Mr Duncan McGregor, and we have no doubt that fitting reference will be made today to the yeoman service rendered by that gentleman to the cause of acclimatisation generally. We appreciate the work done by the society in years Jthat are gone, and everybody will express the hope that the Masterton fishponds will prove as serviceable and as attractive as those which were so long and well conduct- ! ed on the old site in Chapel Street.
